Internship Job Description

WE ARE CURRENTLY ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR ACADEMIC YEAR 2012-2013 LEGAL INTERNS AND EXTERNS.

APPLICATIONS FOR SUMMER 2013 INTERNSHIPS WILL BE ACCEPTED STARTING NOVEMBER 1, 2012.


Responsibilities and Projects Our legal interns/externs work along with our staff attorneys in providing direct representation, education and policy advocacy on behalf of homeless individuals and families. The types of matters our interns/externs handle, under attorney supervision, typically include direct client casework, researching legal questions, drafting legal pleadings, public policy advocacy, and community education.

Qualifications Ideal applicants are current law students who have a demonstrated interest in homelessness, affordable housing, social justice, legal services, public policy advocacy, and/or public interest law. We look for applicants who are committed to doing public interest law upon graduation and have completed at least one year of law school. Applicants should have good oral and written communication skills. Prior experience and interest in direct services and/or working with homeless men and women is helpful, but not required.

The Legal Clinic generally has one intern/extern each semester and one or two during the summer. Our internships and externships are unpaid.
