Volunteer Resource Links
Probono.net (www.probono.net/dc) -- Resources in various areas of
law, including housing, asylum, civil rights, and community development.
Site includes form pleadings, recent changes in law, policy documents,
and agency guides. Password is required for entry into specific practice
area pages; temporary password available from Legal Clinic staff.
District of Columbia Code (dccode.westgroup.com/) – Free Westlaw site with access to
complete, current DC Code.
District of Columbia Housing
Authority (www.dchousing.org) -- Provides information on DCHA programs,
although the information is somewhat incomplete and doesn’t entirely
mean what the link says it does (for instance, the “Your Rights/The
Law” section only discusses the grievance and fair hearings process
and doesn’t include information on the law at all).
Social Security Administration
(www.ssa.gov) -- Excellent site providing information
on all SSA programs; updated frequently. Most helpful resources on
this site are links to the Code of Federal Regulations, Social Security
Rulings, Program Operations Manual System, and HALLEX.
Department of Housing and Urban
Development (www.hud.gov) -- Reasonably helpful site providing
information on HUD programs, including Section 8 and public housing,
and the law and regulations governing those programs. Not as complete
and user-friendly as the SSA website, but still accessible.
HUD Office of Policy Development
and Research (www.huduser.org) -- Very helpful site providing resources
for housing/community development and policy makers. Contains reports
and other publications created by the OPDR.
Department of Health and Human
Services (www.hhs.gov) -- Contains a section on the services
that HHS provides for specific populations, including the homeless.
Center for Medicare and Medicaid
Services (cms.hhs.gov) – Separate page from the main HHS
site specifically about the Medicare and Medicaid programs.
Interfaith Conference (www.ifcmw.org/emergency_directory) -- Contains link to Emergency Food
and Shelter Directory. Site is not updated frequently; most recent
edition available is 2001 edition.
DC Housing Search (dchousingsearch.org/) -- Individuals can browse up-to-date, detailed listings of available for rent and for sale properties to include those developed or renovated with funding provided by the DC Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) and the DC Housing Finance Agency. Additionally, properties managed under the DC Housing Authority's Housing Choice Voucher Program are listed on DCHousingSearch.org.
DC Food Finder (dcfoodfinder.org) -- An Interactive Map of Food Resources in DC.
