We mark our 25th anniversary this year and look to this important occasion not as a celebration, but rather as a call to action.  With nearly 7,000 people homeless in the nation’s capital on any given day (about 40% of whom are in families), and tens of thousands of households struggling to find housing that they can afford, there seems little to celebrate.  To be sure, we’ve helped a lot of people move their lives to a better place, but so much more remains to be done.  We want to take advantage of this quarter century milestone to call attention to the challenges that remain to be addressed, and hopefully inspire people to continue to walk by our side on this path towards justice.  We feel that this story is best told by our clients, in their words and through their eyes.  Towards that end, A Journey Home shares personal stories of the struggle against homelessness in the District of Columbia and the journey to find a stable place to call home.

If you are moved by the stories of these strong and resilient women, please share them through your networks.  The more that people are aware of the challenges, the more that we see the faces and hear the voices behind the statistics…the more likely we are to find real and lasting solutions.  Our hope is that long before the Legal Clinic hits a golden jubilee, we will have shuttered our windows and locked our doors permanently, because everyone has been able to go home.

And then we will be able to celebrate.
