Legal Help

The Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless provides free legal representation and “know your rights” workshops.

Trees and cars line the street with the Capital building in the background.

We are the only legal services organization in Washington, D.C. that focuses on the legal rights of people at risk of or experiencing homelessness, including:

  • discrimination based on homeless or housing status
  • street rights (including encampments)
  • emergency shelters
  • housing vouchers
  • rapid re-housing
  • other affordable housing programs
  • eviction record sealing
  • criminal record sealing
  • denials of rental housing applications
  • public benefits
  • identification documents
  • other civil legal issues

If you think your rights have been violated or need legal help, call the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless at 202-328-5500.  If you would like more information on our “know your rights” workshops, call us or email us at info@legalclinic.org

If you have a current eviction case, please call the Landlord Tenant Legal Assistance Network at 202-780-2575  for legal representation.

There are some case types we are not able to help with, such as employment law, immigration law, family law (including divorce, custody, child support, civil protection orders), criminal defense, personal injury, and probate and estate law.

Please call us if you are not sure whether your legal matter is one the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless can consider, and we may be able to give you other resources if we are not the best fit.
