DC’s Public Housing Crisis: Centering Solutions on Needs of Current and Future Tenants
Last winter, the DC Housing Authority released a report that concluded that the District’s public housing stock was in crisis, with 2500 of its units “nearly uninhabitable.” Since that point we have been working with fellow advocates to figure out a path forward that appropriately balances the pressing needs of current tenants for habitable units with the preservation of deeply affordable, low barrier public housing. In Gratitude
At this time of giving thanks, there is so much for which we are grateful. But we recognize that our bounty is not linked to the calendar, to be appreciated only in late November. Neither are the needs of those community members experiencing homelessness limited solely to the holidays, when we are more attuned to those who have no bounty. We thus commit to counting our many blessings throughout the year, and to do all that we can, whenever is necessary, to respond to our neighbors in need. Read more…
